The Saturday Night Live writer who penned a since-deleted tweet mocking Donald Trump's 10-year-old son has been suspended from her duties on the show. Katie Rich tweeted Friday that Barron Trump "will be this country's first homeschool shooter." The tweet was swiftly condemned; Rich deleted it and deactivated her Twitter account. Her account is now back, with just one tweet currently posted on it: "I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry." Nearly 100,000 so far have signed a petition calling for SNL to fire Rich.

A source tells the New York Times Rich, who was hired by SNL in 2013, was suspended from the show immediately after her tweet; her name did not appear in the credits of Saturday night's show. The Chicago Tribune notes that her name is still listed as a writer on NBC's media website for journalists. The Times' source says she will be suspended indefinitely. Chelsea Clinton has called for people to let Barron be a kid. (More Barron Trump stories.)
