2 Onesies, 452 Needles: 5 Brilliant Stories This Week
   (Facebook)

A very moving pregnancy announcement and a big moment on Ellen make this week's list of uplifting news:

  • Couple's Pregnancy Reveal Features 452 Needles: After more than two years of failed attempts, a woman in Texas is finally pregnant, and her heartfelt Facebook post has gone viral with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. It took, as Lauren Walker writes, more than 953 days, 452 needles, two IVF rounds, multiple miscarriages, and thousands of tears, but she and her husband are expecting twins. Their story is both heartbreaking and inspirational.
  • Woman Sees Cop in Trouble, Jumps on Attacker's Back: When Vickie Williams-Tillman saw a police officer struggling with someone on the side of the road as she was headed out to shop in Baton Rouge, the 56-year-old says she didn't have time to think. "I could see in his eyes he needed help," she says. She got out of her car and jumped on the man's back, and she may have saved the officer's life.

  • 6-Year-Old Autistic Boy Will Only Eat One Thing, Something Amazing Happens: Everett Botwright is on the autism spectrum, and food is one of the 6-year-old's "key issues," his parents say. Lately, one of the only foods he would eat was a Star Wars-themed pasta dinner made by Kraft—and when his parents realized it was a limited edition and had trouble re-stocking their cupboards, the British Columbia couple put out a call on social media asking if anyone could help them track more boxes down. They got more help than they could ever have imagined.
  • Woman Scores Half-Court Shot, $500, Fiancé: When Erin Tobin shoots, sometimes she really scores: The 30-year-old New Yorker and college basketball fan was watching her alma mater Siena take on Manhattan when she got the opportunity to take a half-court shot with a $500 gift card on the line. Not only did she sink the shot and score the cash, but she turned around to see the Dunkin' Donuts mascot ditching his costume—revealing Tobin's boyfriend, with an even better prize.
  • Ellen Tells Entire Senior Class They're Going to College—Free: Ellen DeGeneres gave what the show says is her single biggest gift ever on Thursday: She told an entire class of high-school seniors they'd be going to college for free. At the beginning of February, DeGeneres had two teachers from Brooklyn's Summit Academy Charter School on the show, and they talked about how their school is in one of Brooklyn's most under-served areas, where just 4% of the adults have gone to college. The school's goal is for all of its graduates to attend college, and last year's graduating class, the school's first, saw 93% of graduating seniors go on to college. This year, DeGeneres made sure the number would be 100%.
