Ravens Kicker Wants to Oust NFLPA Boss

Posted Apr 9, 08 12:39 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – In an email obtained by ESPN, Ravens kicker Matt Stover outlines a plan to install a new NFL Players Association Executive Director by March 2009. Stover cites other union reps' agreement that "it is time for a change" from Gene Upshaw's leadership. "Matt Stover has no clue. Whoever is pulling his chain is doing a disservice to the union," says Upshaw.

The NFLPA boss, whose contract runs through 2010, acknowledges that a group of players is interested in change, but defends his work for the union. "I could understand the idea that they need to get rid of me if I wasn't doing a good job but, shoot, the owners are mad because they think I've done too good of a job."
