Cleese Wants to be Obama Speechwriter

Posted Apr 9, 08 3:15 PM CDT in World US Politics Gossip

(Newser) – British comedian John Cleese has endorsed Barack Obama and says he stands ready to be a speechwriter for his chosen candidate. "If Barack Obama gets the nomination, I'm going to offer my services to him as a speechwriter," the California-based Cleese tells the UK's Western Daily Press, "because I think he is a brilliant man."

The Illinois senator has earned its share of celebrity endorsements, from Oprah Winfrey to musician Dave Matthews, and actress Scarlett Johansson. A campaign rep seemed to take the Cleese offer in stride, telling the Daily Mail, "If he can throw in a cameo in the next Monty Python movie, we have a deal."
