Hole in One Doesn't Touch Tiger Territory

(newser) – Ian Poulter's hole in one in yesterday's opening round was impressive, but that doesn't bring him to the level of golf's unassailable leader. Tiger Woods, though he's sitting four shots back of the leaders after the first day of the Augusta Masters, is still unquestionably the world's best golfer. The New York Times wonders who his successor might eventually be.

No twentysomething competitor seems ready to challenge Tiger—Sergio Garcia (28) hasn't yet won a major, and 20-year-old Australian Jason Day's challenges of Woods have so far been all talk. Poulter, who is the same age as Tiger, has expressed a desire just "to get the No. 2 spot," and a handful of excellent older players have approached but never eclipsed Tiger.
