Video-Beating Teens Could Face Life

They'll be tried as adults on kidnapping, battery charges

(Newser) – The eight Florida teens who videotaped a half-hour beating of a classmate will be tried as adults and could face life behind bars if convicted, CNN reports. The suspects face felony kidnapping charges, and three also face witness tampering raps. They seemed remorseless, a sheriff said. “They were joking: ‘I guess we won’t get to go to the beach during spring break,'" he said.

(NEWSER) - A 12-year-old Florida boy has been charged in the vicious beating death of his 2-year-old half-brother. David Galarriago died two days after he was hospitalized with a severe skull fracture and facial bruising. Big brother Cristian Fernandez admitted beating the toddler, and said he also broke the little boy's leg months earlier, police said. If convicted of the first-degree murder charge against him, Galarriago could spend life in prison. The murder charge is "disturbing—but when you have to balance the safety of other children in the home and in the community, it is not so disturbing," said the state attorney. (NEWSER) - Owners of a Florida Internet company are being sued for paying homeless men $50 to be filmed while women punched and kicked them in dominatrix fetish videos, according to court documents. The company sells "beatdown videos" of women attacking men for up to $900 on its site at Shefights.net . The suit charges that the St. Petersburg business violates a state law against hate crimes. Some of the homeless have been hospitalized as the result of the beatings, and men have suffered broken ribs and a dislocated jaw, according to the suit. A homeless advocate became suspicious months ago when he saw several men on local streets with limps, bruises, and split lips . More»

(NEWSER) - Don't mess with a wound-up teen obsessed with a car. A Florida high school honors student accepted into Ivy League schools pistol-whipped her mom when the mother refused to sign a car loan for her, according to cops. Rachel Hachero, 17, called her mom from a Fort Myers car dealership and ordered her to come to sign a loan. When her mom refused, Rachel threatened to kill her, the mother told investigators. Later, when the teen arrived home she struck her mother with a stolen pistol, then held it to her head to force her back to the dealership, where the mom promptly signed the loan, said police. More»
