Rangers Take 2-0 Lead Over Devils

Posted Apr 11, 08 11:08 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Henrik Lundqvist and another flukey goal have the New York Rangers halfway to the second round after beating longtime rival New Jersey, 2-1, on Friday. Jaromir Jagr and Sean Avery scored 23 seconds apart early in the third period and Lundqvist made 26 saves in beating the Devils yet again for a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

The win was the Rangers' ninth in 10 games against New Jersey this season. Jagr broke a scoreless tie with another tally that left Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur shaking his head after Jagr’s shot went in off the Devils’ goaltender’s back. Soon After, Sean Avery picked up a shot that deflected off Devils forward Patrik Elias and scored over Brodeur's glove.
