Gomes' Late Free Throws Lift Timberwolves

Posted Apr 11, 08 11:40 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Ryan Gomes made a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a 102-101 victory over the playoff-bound Orlando on Friday. Randy Foye had a game-high 25 points and Rashad McCants added 19 to lead the Timberwolves, who snapped a six-game losing streak. The Magic have lost six of their last 10 games.

Hedo Turkoglu attempted a winning 3-pointer as time expired but his shot missed the entire basket and Orlando failed to get its 50th win of the season, a mark it hasn’t achieved since the 1995-96 campaign. Turkoglu scored 23 points to lead the Magic while Dwight Howard had 20 points and 14 rebounds for his 68th double-double of the season.
