Wang Throws 2-Hitter, Yanks Top Red Sox

Posted Apr 11, 08 11:26 PM CDT in Sports    Most Covered

(Newser) – Chien-Ming Wang added an outstanding pitching performance to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry—a two-hit complete game. In the teams' first meeting of the season, Wang gave up only a home run by J.D. Drew that was nearly caught and a bunt single Friday night as New York beat Boston 4-1. Wang (3-0) allowed only one other runner, on an error.

A struggling Jason Giambi gave New York a 2-1 lead with a leadoff homer in the seventh inning off Mike Timlin (0-1). Jose Molina then doubled, took third on Alberto Gonzalez's sacrifice and scored on Melky Cabrera's sacrifice fly. Bobby Abreu singled in the final run in the ninth. Wang, who’s lasted at least six innings each start, threw 93 pitches.
