Pirates Win on McLouth's Hit

Posted Apr 13, 08 5:29 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Nate McLouth, the surprise major league hits leader, singled in the go-ahead run and had two more hits, and the Pittsburgh Pirates won consecutive games for the first time this season by beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 last night. Ronny Paulino had a two-run single in the second inning against Bronson Arroyo (0-2), who remained winless in four career starts against his former club.

Xavier Nady fought off a breaking ball from Arroyo to single into right field and drive in a run in the fifth as the Pirates, who began the week by losing their first three home games. Ian Snell (2-0), the only Pirates starting pitcher to win in their 11 games this season, pitched 6 1/3 innings for the victory, despite allowing nine hits and walking two.
