(Newser) – A car thief in Calgary didn't count on rising to internet fame when he stole a rare Nissan Skyline GTR from a dealer, the New York Times reports. The owner posted a picture of the vehicle on an internet car lovers' forum and before long, his fellow forum members had not only spotted the car, they had photographed the suspect, found his details on Facebook, and called the cops.

A member of the "cyber posse" was waiting on the scene when police arrived and filmed the bust for YouTube. The suspect has been charged with theft. The crime-busting thread on the internet forum has grabbed over a million views. “This guy has worldwide recognition for being a car thief for the rest of his life,” said the Nissan owner. "The internet is not going away."
