Google Ups Ante in Office Software Fight Vs. Microsoft

Posted Apr 14, 08 3:10 PM CDT in Business Technology

(Newser) – Google and Salesforce.com have expanded their partnership in customer-management and office software, the New York Times reports, in an ongoing competition with Microsoft and its Office suite. Salesforce’s software will be further integrated with Google’s applications—a milestone in the search giant’s efforts to challenge Microsoft in business settings.

Says Salesforce’s chief exec, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend, so that makes Google my best friend.” The partners say the seamlessness of applications is groundbreaking, with users able to use email and instant messaging from within sales accounts. Microsoft says it's still way ahead of the game, and that its competitors are only slowly catching on in areas it's already perfected.
