At Likely Seattle Finale, Boos Amid Sonic Boom

Posted Apr 14, 08 12:52 PM CDT in US Sports

(Newser) – Amid a playoff-type atmosphere, the Seattle SuperSonics rallied to win their final game of the season—and, USA Today reports, likely their final game in Seattle. If the NBA's board of governors gives owner Clay Bennett the go-ahead this week, the team will be on its way to Oklahoma City after Bennett was unable to solve stadium issues in the Emerald City.

Interspersed with angry chants directed at Bennett, Seattle's fans said what might be their goodbyes. "I grew up watching 'Downtown' Freddie Brown and those guys. I'm devastated by this," said one. Another expressed disappointment that the ownership group misled the city while planning all along to move. "It's why they're filthy rich: They're planners."
