Red Sox Rally Past Indians —Again

(Newser) – Six months later, the Red Sox came back on the Indians again. Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer—No. 493 of his career—and Boston rallied for three runs in the ninth inning against closer Joe Borowski for a 6-4 win Monday night over Cleveland in a stunning rerun of last October's AL championship series.

Ramirez's shot to left off Borowski (0-2) was just the latest Red Sox comeback against the Indians. Last fall, Boston rallied from a 3-1 ALCS deficit to beat Cleveland and advance to the World Series. The stakes weren't nearly as high this time, but the Red Sox came through again. And so did Ramirez.

    Boston's Pedroia Wins American League MVP Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was named the American League’s Most Valuable Player today, the Globe reports, beating out Minnesota’s Justin Morneau and Red Sox teammate Kevin Youkilis. Pedroia, 25, was the AL’s top rookie last season, and finished 2008 with a league-leading 213 hits, batting .326 with 17 home runs and 83 RBIs. He also won the Gold Glove at his position.

    Indians' Lee Cruises to AL Cy Young Left-hander Cliff Lee, who had to compete just to get on the Cleveland Indians’ regular-season roster, became the team’s second consecutive American League Cy Young Award winner today, easily outdistancing Toronto’s Roy Halladay, MLB.com reports.
