Specter's Cancer Returns

Posted Apr 15, 08 7:26 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – After three years in remission, cancerous Hodgkin's disease has reappeared in the body of Sen. Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania Republican said today. "I consider this just another bump on the road to a successful recovery from Hodgkin's, from which I've been symptom-free for three years," said Specter, 78. Chemotherapy is next, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The recurrence of Hodgkin's, a cancer of the lymphatic system, is in Specter's chest and is less advanced than in 2005, reports Reuters, noting that the state's senior senator will continue working and campaigning for re-election in Pennsylvania. His doctor says Specter "has an excellent chance of again achieving a complete remission of his Hodgkin's disease."
