Phillies Score 4 in Ninth to Rally Past Houston

(Newser) – Pedro Feliz's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a four-run rally that carried the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Houston starter Shawn Chacon allowed only four singles in eight impressive innings before handing the ball to closer Jose Valverde.

But pinch-hitter Chris Snelling hit a leadoff homer in the ninth off Valverde (2-1), and Chase Utley was hit by a pitch. After Ryan Howard struck out, Pat Burrell tied the score at 3 with a two-run homer to right. Geoff Jenkins struck out, but the ball eluded catcher Brad Ausmus for a passed ball and Jenkins scampered safely to first before Feliz ripped a shot into the left-field corner, scoring the runner.

Soto, 25, was voted an All-Star Game starter and finished the season with a .285 batting average, 23 home runs, and 86 RBI, the Tribune reports. He easily beat out Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto.

Pedro Feliz singled home Eric Bruntlett in the bottom of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and provide the winning run, the Tampa Bay Tribune reports. The two teams had to resume the game in the sixth inning tonight after it was halted because of rain Monday night.
