Jilted Lover Charged in Contract Hit on Teen Mom

Posted Apr 16, 08 10:38 AM CDT in Crime & Courts US

(Newser) – The shooting death of an 18-year-old mom and wounding of her boyfriend as they sat with their baby son in a car was set up by the beau, cops now say. The boyfriend initially insisted the two had been shot by a robber in the Bronx, but now he and his cousin have been charged with murder, reports the New York Times reports.

Officials say the man paid his cousin $1,000 to kill the mother of his baby because she planned to end their relationship. He reportedly chased his hired hitman down the street to remind him to shoot him in the leg as his girlfriend lay dying. Police became particularly suspicious when a man matching the killer's description—the cousin—turned up in the hospital to visit the wounded boyfriend.
