'Sex and the City' star comes clean about her battle 2 years ago

(Newser) – "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon quietly fought breast cancer two years ago while performing on Broadway, she revealed for the first time yesterday. "I didn't really want to make it public while I was going through it. I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital," the "scared" 42-year-old best known for playing Miranda Hobbes told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Nixon, whose own mother battled breast cancer twice, underwent a lumpectomy and six and a half weeks of radiation. She says that while she kept the cancer a secret, she and her girlfriend of four years “made a big point of talking to my kids about it,” and she's since agreed to be the spokeswoman for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
