The Purple One’s love for a certain color is being honored with a new hue developed by the Pantone Color Institute in collaboration with his estate. According to Pitchfork, the shade “Love Symbol #2” was named after the trademark symbol Prince developed in the ‘90s, while the color itself was inspired by his custom-made Yamaha purple piano. Per Pantone’s press release, Love Symbol #2 “will be the official color across the brand he left behind.”

Prince first became synonymous with his favorite color in 1984, when the film Purple Rain and its Academy Award-winning soundtrack were released. Described as “emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style” by Pantone Color Institute VP Laurie Pressman, the move solidifies Prince’s influence on pop culture following the icon’s death in 2016. “This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever,” says an adviser to Prince’s estate.
