Barnes, Ott Lead Dallas Past Anaheim

Defending champ Ducks on the verge of elimination

(Newser) – Stu Barnes and Steve Ott scored third-period goals and Marty Turco came within 7.6 seconds of a shutout, sending the Dallas Stars past the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 tonight. The loss puts the reigning Stanley Cup champions on the brink of elimination. Dallas leads the first-round series 3-1 going into Game 5 in Anaheim tomorrow night.

Turco and the Stars are seeking their first postseason series win since a first-rounder in 2003, having dropped four straight. Anaheim, meanwhile, is a loss away from continuing a dismal streak for defending champs—none has reached the second round since Colorado in 2002. The last time Dallas won a home playoff game, Turco had a shutout.

(NEWSER) - Detroit's goal with a guy barely in the crease, if at all, didn't count. Dallas' goal with a guy clearly in the crease did count. Apparently, that's what it takes to slow the mighty Red Wings. Loui Ericksson's goal about 12 minutes after Detroit's was waved off, then third-period goals from Mike Modano and Brenden Morrow sent the Stars past the Red Wings 3-1. More»

(NEWSER) - Darren Helm and Henrik Zetterberg scored first-period goals to help make up for the loss of Johan Franzen and the Detroit Red Wings held on for a 2-1 win tonight over the Dallas Stars and a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals. Stephane Robidas tied it at 1 midway through the first period, but the Stars struggled to get shots to or past Chris Osgood. More»

(NEWSER) - The Sharks just won't go away _ and now they're going back to Dallas. Joe Pavelski scored 65 seconds into overtime and San Jose evaded playoff elimination for the second straight game Friday, improbably rallying from a late two-goal deficit to beat Dallas 3-2 in Game 5.
