All 3 Major Indexes Close at Record Highs

Stocks are closing higher on Wall Street after another mostly quiet day of trading, the AP reports. General Motors jumped 3.1%, and Ford gained 2.1% after the automakers both reported solid sales growth for September. Paychex, a payroll and human-resources provider, rose 3.6% after reporting stronger earnings than analysts expected. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 5 points, or 0.2%, to 2,535. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 84 points, or 0.4%, to 22,642, and the Nasdaq composite rose 15 points, or 0.2%, to 6,532. All three indexes closed at record highs.
