Suzuki Leads A's to Comeback Win Over Royals

Posted Apr 19, 08 11:12 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Kurt Suzuki singled home Chris Denorfia with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and the Oakland Athletics knocked around Kansas City's bullpen for a second straight day in a 6-5 win over the Royals yesterday. Daric Barton went 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple to make up for a critical fielding error in the second inning while five other players had two hits apiece for the A's.

Joey Devine (2-0) pitched two shutout innings of relief to earn the win while Huston Street recorded the final four outs for his fifth save in six chances. Jose Guillen and Miguel Olivo both homered for struggling Kansas City, which managed only three hits over the final seven innings. The Royals have lost three straight and four of five after opening the season 8-5, their best start since 2003.
