Padres Defeat Big Unit, Diamondbacks

Posted Apr 20, 08 10:29 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Justin Huber connected off Randy Johnson for his first career home run, ruining the Big Unit's return and helping the San Diego Padres defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 today. The Padres had mustered a total of six runs in their previous four games, all losses. They scored that many against Johnson, who hadn't started a game since back surgery last year.

The 44-year-old Johnson retired nine straight batters, striking out four of them. Johnson (0-1) gave up six runs, four earned, and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out six. Padres Randy Wolf allowed four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven and walking one. Conor Jackson had three hits for Arizona.
