Smoltz Stones Mets for Milestone

Posted May 25, 07 4:53 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Facing off against former teammate Tom Glavine, do-it-all Braves righty John Smoltz prevailed again for his 200th win—the most for any player with 150 saves or more. Smoltz was converted to a closer in 2001 and back to a starter in 2005, and his 154 saves are an Atlanta team record.

Hall-of-Famer Dennis Eckersley is closest to Smoltz's 200-150 combination, with 197 wins and 390 saves. Smoltz, 40, has pitched 14 scoreless innings in his last two starts, and the Braves are 3-0 when he pitches against Glavine, 41, who this year is seeking his 300th career win.
