Despite Democratic dreams of a shared ticket, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton may not be able to stand each other long enough to share a campaign. It’s been the first question in several debates, and will be for either as the freshly crowned nominee, but when the Times privately queried the candidates’ aides, the response was laughter.

There’s epic bitterness between Clinton and Obama, and the two have bashed each other so much that they'd make an awkward team. “This has turned into a battle of egos,” said a member of the most rarified breed—an uncommitted superdel. And Bill is the elephant in the room on any joint ticket. Still, the Times points out, stranger pairings have happened. (More Barack Obama stories.)
