President Trump stuck to the script in his Friday morning speech at Davos in which he declared that the US is "open for business" thanks to a robust economy. In a surprise Q&A afterward with Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, Trump ventured into different territory—that of fake news. "It wasn’t until I became a politician that I realized how nasty, how mean, how vicious, and how fake the press can be," Trump told Schwab. He then notes that cameras had begun going off in the back of the room, and a mixture of laughter, booing, and clapping can be heard. Listen and watch for yourself here.

The exchange has led to coverage such as this in the Guardian: "This prompts some boos and hisses - something I’ve not heard before," wrote one of the newspaper's journalists blogging the event. Headlines such as "Trump Booed at Davos After Trashing Press," per Mediaite, also were cropping up. One of those in attendance was Washington Post reporter Ishaan Tharoor, who tweeted about the source of the boos: "Foreign journos sitting next to me booed Trump's attack on the press." Prior to their Q&A, Schwab sounded a sympathetic note, saying in his introduction that Trump's "leadership is open to misconceptions and biased interpretations," per the Hill, which says his line was also met with boos.
