Yanks Beat White Sox, 6-4

Posted Apr 24, 08 7:58 AM CDT in Sports    Most Covered

(newser) – Mike Mussina pitched seven strong innings and moved ahead of Bob Gibson on the career wins list, as the New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 last night. Jorge Posada had four hits, including a career-high three doubles, and drove in two runs. Bobby Abreu hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh, while Johnny Damon added a three-run shot in the eighth.

The Yankees matched a season high with their third straight win as Mussina (2-3) earned his 252nd victory on his third try. That gave him sole possession of 42nd place on baseball's wins list and put the Yankees in position for a three-game sweep of the AL Central leaders. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save in as many chances.
