Burrell's Double Helps Phillies Beat Brewers 3-1

Posted Apr 24, 08 6:03 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Pat Burrell's two-out, two-run double broke a tie in the eighth, and the Philadelphia Phillies held on for a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. Burrell's deep drive to the left field corner capped the Phillies' two-out rally off Brewers reliever David Riske (0-1), who got the first two outs of the inning before walking Greg Dobbs and giving up a single to Chase Utley.

Philadelphia reliever Tom Gordon (1-2) was credited with the victory after pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, one of two significant scoring chances squandered by the Brewers. Brad Lidge pitched the ninth for his fifth save in five chances. The Phillies also got a solid outing from starter Jamie Moyer, the league's oldest player at 45.
