Baby Mama No Bundle of Joy

Posted Apr 25, 08 7:50 AM CDT in Arts & Living    Most Covered

(newser) – Critics don't seem thrilled about the arrival of Baby Mama, which tells the story of an overachieving, infertile career woman (Tina Fey) who hires a rough-around-the-edges high school dropout (Amy Poehler) to bear her a child. The movie's not "laugh-out-loud funny," writes Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post. "It's more quiet-chuckle funny, which is fine."

What's not so fine, writes Keith Phipps of The Onion A.V. Club, is that instead of an actual plot, the film offers "a series of contrivances that play out completely as expected." Perhaps that's because Fey, SNL's first female head writer and creator of 30 Rock, didn't pen the script. If she had, Baby Mama probably "wouldn't have been half as conventional and plodding," writes Dustin Putman in TheMovieBoy.com.
