More GOP Ads Take Direct Aim at Obama

Posted Apr 25, 08 11:43 AM CDT in Politics    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – More Republicans are taking advantage of Barack Obama's newfound vulnerability by giving him a starring role in their political ads, the Los Angeles Times reports. One New Mexico spot says Obama disrespects “the American way of life,” and another in Louisiana that mentions his “radical” healthcare plan prompted the Democrat in the race to insist he has not "endorsed any national politician.”

The ads underscore a growing debate about Obama's electability and his seeming inability to win over white and senior voters, the Times notes. That's even as recent polls show him faring as well as Clinton among lower-income voters when matched against McCain. “Right now, Hillary is a better target for us," said one strategist who helped create the Kerry Swift Boat ads. "But the more you see Obama in action, the better we're liking him.”
