NC victory might yield endorsement—which could sway white voters

Donors to John Edwards, as well as his congressional backers, have noticeably chosen Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton—a fact which, combined with the expected landslide in North Carolina’s primary, could lead Edwards to tap the Illinois senator, the Hill’s Alexander Bolton argues. Nine US representatives have switched to Obama, to none for Clinton; Obama's attracted three times as many ex-Edwards donors.

Said a North Carolina congressman who’s shifted to Obama, “John Edwards understands the need to change the direction of this country; I would hope that he would make an endorsement to bring closure to the nominating process.” But a close friend of John’s was unsure: “I would be somewhat surprised” by any Edwards statement.
