2 Dead, 21 Hurt in Chicago Truck Crash

(Newser) – A speeding semitruck barreled into a Chicago train station today, killing two people and injuring 21—11 critically, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Coming off a freeway in rush hour, the truck hit a bus stop, wedged under a train overpass, and crashed "several steps" up the train platform escalator, one witness told the Chicago Tribune. Several victims are being treated in Chicago hospitals.

Emergency vehicles and ambulances have crowded the scene as onlookers press against barriers, many asking for family. Another told what he saw: “I saw (the truck) coming, and I got out of the way,” a man said. "It hit everybody else" at the bus stop. "When I turned around, everybody else was bleeding at least a little bit." The driver, a 51-year-old male, is in stable condition at a local hospital.
