Tigers Cruise by Angels

Posted Apr 26, 08 9:24 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez each drove in a pair of runs, and Detroit beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 today for the Tigers' fourth win in five games. Tigers rookie Armando Galarraga didn't get a decision after pitching 5 2/3 hitless innings to start the game. He wound up allowing three runs on three hits and two walks in six-plus innings.

Todd Jones got his fourth save with a scoreless ninth. Because of injuries, the Tigers still haven't gotten their best lineup on the field as Carlos Guillen missed this one with a bruised knee, but they still managed to snap the Angels' three-game winning streak. Detroit went ahead in the first on Ordonez's RBI double, then went up 3-0 on Polanco's two-run single in the fifth.
