Down in Polls, Brown Admits 'Mistakes'

(Newser) – With polls predicting big losses for his Labour party in tomorrow’s local elections, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown admitted he’d made mistakes in the past six months, Reuters reports. Chiefly, Brown acknowledged increasing the tax burden on the lowest-paid workers and those aged 60-64, but said both problems were currently being “dealt with.”

But Brown emphasized current issues over past mistakes—UK home prices fell for the first time in 12 years in April, a sign that Britain might be sucked into the US economic morass. "My priority is that we can lead the people in Britain through this economic problem and do so by taking the right decisions," Brown said.
