Nelson Mandela may be a Nobel Peace Prize winner, former head of state, an icon of non-violence, and a symbol of the conquest of hope and endurance over oppression, but to the US federal government he's a potential terrorist. Incredibly, Mandela and all members of the African National Congress remain on terrorist watch lists, reports USA Today.

Legislation is pending to take the ANC off terrorist watch lists. For now ANC members still need special waivers to enter the US. "This is a country with which we now have excellent relations," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told a Senate committee. "It's frankly rather embarrassing that I still have to waive in the great leader Nelson Mandela." (More Nelson Mandela stories.)
