Measure targets Internet sexual predators

(Newser) – Canada increased the minimum age of sexual consent by 2 years to 16 today, the Canadian Press reports. The law is intended to snare sexual predators who prey on 14- and 15-year-olds, and exempts sex that occurs between two individuals less than five years apart in age. Canada's age of consent has been 14 since 1892.

(NEWSER) - A 14-year-old girl strangled by her father was carrying his baby, prosecutors revealed yesterday. Miguel Matias, 36, has confessed to killing his daughter because he caught the teen typing "sexy things" on her computer, reports the New York Daily News. Authorities have now discovered that DNA taken from girl's fetus matches her father's. Her naked body was tossed in a boiler in the family's apartment building. (NEWSER) - The critical problem with sexting is that salacious snaps teens send of themselves from their cell phones can exist forever in cyberspace. That's the message Australian authorities are stressing in a new educational anti-sexting campaign. Nude pictures sent in fun could end up being posted on the Internet by sexual predators years later or could scuttle job prospects if spotted online by potential employers, reports Reuters. More»
