Dorm Rooms Go Coed

Posted May 3, 08 2:45 PM CDT in Arts & Living    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – Parents who schooled in same-sex dorms are surprised to hear that their kids are sharing coed college rooms, the AP reports. About two dozen schools—including Brown, Penn, and Oberlin—allow the practice, and more are following suit this year, including Stanford. Schools say coed dorm users are usually heterosexual and happen to like living with a friend of the opposite sex.

"I had just roomed with a boy. I was under the impression at the time that girls were a little bit neater and more quiet," said one male student who shares a room with a female friend.  "As it turns out, I don't see much of a difference from one sex to the other."
