Cardinals Win in 11 Over Cubs

Posted May 3, 08 12:58 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Skip Schumaker hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning, taking struggling closer Jason Isringhausen off the hook in the St. Louis Cardinals' 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night. The Cubs' outfield was playing in with a runner on third and one out when Schumaker hit his second homer of the season and fifth of his career off Chad Fox.

Fox (0-1) had his contract purchased from Triple-A Iowa earlier Friday and made his first appearance since April 2005. Ron Villone (1-0) picked up his first victory since July 2, 2006, for the Yankees over the Mets. Alfonso Soriano - just one day off the disabled list - tied it in the ninth with a two-run homer off Isringhausen.
