The stock markets opened with a bang on Thursday, with both the Dow and the S&P 500 reaching all-time highs. CNBC chalks up part of it to investor sentiment that the trade war between the US and China won't be as bad as feared, despite the rhetoric between the two largest economies in the world. Soon after the opening bell, the Dow rose more than 200 points to surpass the mark of 26,616 set in January of this year, while the S&P climbed above the mark of 2,914 it set in August. The latter caught the attention of President Trump, who tweeted, "S&P 500 HITS ALL-TIME HIGH Congratulations USA!" (More stock market stories.)
