Nationals' Tim Redding Throws for Fourth Win

(Newser) – Aaron Boone homered as the Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 today. Tim Redding (4-2) closed out an 11-game homestand, Washington's longest of the season, by helping the Nationals to their sixth victory in seven games. Washington finished the homestand 8-3. Redding allowed one run over 6 1-3 innings, gave up six hits, no walks and struck out five.

Aaron Boone homered for the Nationals, while Adam LaRoche had two RBIs and three hits - including a bases-empty homer with one out in the fifth - for the Pirates. They have now lost seven of 10 games and 13 of 18. Ian Snell (2-2) got the loss for Pittsburgh, giving up four runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking out two.
