Hezbollah Militants School Iraqi Fighters in Iran: US

Posted May 5, 08 9:45 AM CDT in World

(Newser) – Hezbollah is helping to train Iraqi militants in Iran, the US claims in a report to Iraq’s government. The information, obtained during US questioning of captured Shiite fighters, suggests Iran is quietly aiding the militia, despite repeated claims it’s not interfering in internal Iraqi matters, the New York Times reports.

US officials say Hezbollah is training Iraqi militants to train others in camps in Iran, and that markings on captured weapons show they are Iranian-made. “We don’t want to be at war with Iran,” said an Iraqi official. “But at the same time, we don’t want Iran to settle their scores with the United States on Iraqi soil.”
