Missing Teacher's Death Ruled a Suicide
Kristin Westra.   (Cumberland County Sheriff's Office)

A tragic end to a missing-person case in Maine that perplexed authorities: The medical examiner's office has determined that a body found near the home of Kristin Westra is that of the 47-year-old schoolteacher, who disappeared Oct. 1, and that she died by suicide, NBC Maine reports. The body was found Friday by children playing in the woods. Authorities conducted a major search for Westra, a mother of two, after she vanished from her North Yarmouth home overnight, leaving behind her phone and car keys. In a statement, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office extended its condolences to Westra's family and friends and thanked the agencies and volunteers involved in the search. (More Maine stories.)
