(Newser) – A Maryland police officer has been stripped of his badge amid charges that he raped an undocumented immigrant during a traffic stop. Ryan Macklin, a six-year veteran of the Prince George Police Department, was suspended without pay hours after the woman showed up to police headquarters to report the incident, reports WUSA. She said Macklin forced her to perform a sex act in her car in a parking lot in Langley Park after he pulled her over around 1am Thursday, per NBC Washington. "I want to praise this woman for coming forward," said Chief Hank Stawinski. He added that police suspect "there may be additional people impacted by this officer's conduct," and are asking anyone with information to call 301-772-4795, per CNN.

Macklin was in uniform and in a marked patrol car for the traffic stop, during which police say he ordered the woman to move her car behind a store. A witness and video evidence back up the assault claim. Macklin, who was named patrol officer of the month at least two times in 2014, is charged with first-degree rape, second-degree rape, perverted practice, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree sex offense. "He is no longer a police officer," a department rep says. "He can't act as a police officer. His police powers have been suspended." A bond hearing is set for Tuesday, reports Fox 5. (A teen who reported a rape was essentially abandoned by her town.)
