Yahoo Partners With McAfee to Make Search Safer

(Newser) – Yahoo search will now label risky sites, including spyware and virus hosts and spammers, thanks to an exclusive deal with McAfee SiteAdvisor, the companies said today. It also will omit sites entirely that attack visiting computers, reports CNet. Yahoo sees millions of clicks through to some such sites daily, a rep said, and expects the changes to significantly advance security.

Yahoo search was No. 2 in March among US consumers, with 20.6% of searches to Google’s 67.3%. An analyst predicted the partnership will improve security but won’t necessarily help Yahoo overtake Google. "It's going to come down to how good the search is, and I think Google will still lead,” she said. Google has some similar protections, though they’re more limited.
