Scrambling Hillary Changes the Target

(Newser) – Barack Obama's resounding win in North Carolina and fight to the finish in Indiana has left the Clinton campaign with one final strategy to win the nomination: move the goalposts and play for time. Team Hillary is now telling journalists that the winning candidate actually needs almost 200 more delegates than both sides had said earlier, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Clinton camp's new figure of 2,209 delegates to win—rather than the 2,025 that the party has used—reflects Hillary's inclusion of Florida and Michigan. Clinton will fight to have those states' results counted in a DNC rules committee meeting this month. If she fails there, she could then appeal to a larger committee in July—further prolonging a campaign that Clinton insisted last night would continue "full speed on to the White House."
