Old-school format, cool music attract older, higher viewers

(Newser) – A Nickelodeon series aimed at preschoolers has garnered an unusual following—hipster parents and twenty-something potheads. The variety-show format of “Yo Gabba Gabba!”—celebs and indie rockers guest between animated shorts—attracts a generation weaned on “The Muppet Show,” reports ABC News. Add bright colors, trippy characters, and ironically funny life lessons and you have a recipe for stoner entertainment.

Tracie Egan, who frequently blogs about the show on Jezebel.com, says it’s ideal to watch high, because “it caters to a child’s mind, and when you’re stoned, you’re sort of, well, slower.” The network is reeling in a late-night audience by streaming episodes online; the YouTube clips have been viewed more than 2 million times.
