Golden Globe nominations were announced Thursday, and along with a surprise frontrunner, there were a number of snubs. USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, and Vanity Fair are among the outlets running them down:

  • Ryan Gosling was not nominated as best actor for his role as Neil Armstrong in First Man—which was also not nominated as best drama.
  • Black Panther was nominated for best drama, but stars Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan were denied best actor and best supporting actor nods.
  • Atlanta, Donald Glover's FX series, won best comedy series at last year's Golden Globes, but wasn't even nominated this year.

  • A Quiet Place earned rave reviews, but the horror film, directed by and starring John Krasinski, only received a nomination for best original score.
  • Steve McQueen's Widows received zero nominations. Among those snubbed? Star Viola Davis.
  • The timely drama The Hate U Give was also overlooked, including no nominations for its star Amandla Stenberg.
  • This Is Us was also completely shut out.
  • Though some of its stars did receive acting nods, The Handmaid's Tale was not nominated as best drama series.
  • Robin Wright may have gotten a serious upgrade in the final season of House of Cards, but it didn't get her a best actress nomination.
  • Mary Poppins Returns got a lot of nominations, but oddly, it failed to score a nod in the best original song category.
  • Another film that was richly nominated but failed to snag one expected category: A Star Is Born, for which Sam Elliott did not receive a best supporting actor nod.
