Fossella, NYC's only Republican, has a daughter with ex-Air Force colonel

(Newser) – A New York City congressman already in deep trouble admitted today he has a 3-year-old daughter outside his marriage, Radar reports. Vito Fossella, the Big Apple’s only Republican rep, was pulled over for DUI last week and rumors had since swirled that the former Air Force lieutenant colonel he called after his arrest was the mother of his child.

“My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain,” Fossella said. A New York Post source earlier said the congressman’s wife is “not going to be standing by her man.” Fossella would face a mandatory five-day sentence if convicted of drunk driving, a fact that has led to speculation he’d have to resign. He made no promise today to step down from office.
