This Vegas Is a Bad Bet

Posted May 9, 08 9:13 AM CDT in Arts & Living    Most Covered

(newser) – The new romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas probably should have stayed in Vegas, most critics think—or "in Hollywood, where such lamebrained ideas are hatched," writes Bill Goodykoontz in the Arizona Republic. Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher star as a couple who get hitched after a drunken night out and are then ordered to stay together by a judge.

Some funny scenes with the stars and some scene-stealing turns from the supporting cast save the "by-the-numbers romantic comedy" from being a complete stinker, Travis Nichols writes in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. But for entertainment value, Josh Bell grouses in Las Vegas Weekly, "those exuberant, slightly vulgar commercials for Vegas tourism were far more entertaining in 30 seconds than this movie can manage in 90 minutes."
