(Newser) – New parents’ tastes haven’t changed much. Emily was the most popular girl’s name last year for the 12th year in a row, while Jacob topped the boys’ list for the ninth consecutive year, AP reports. Among the top 10 girls’ names, only one was new: Elizabeth, which knocked Samantha off the list. Experts say parents tend to seek names that appeal to people of many backgrounds and are free of bad associations.

Other popular names for girls? Isabella, Emma, Ava, Madison, Sophia, Olivia, Abigail, Hannah and Elizabeth. Behind Jacob were Michael, Joshua, Matthew, Ethan, Daniel, Christopher, Anthony, William and Andrew.
